2014 Rattler Rock Zinfandel

What else could we possibly have in mind when we blend a wine named after a Rattlesnake's post? A far cry from the strutting Rooster, feisty Luci and our designer Southdown Zinfandel, Rattler Rock has carved out a niche all its own. We are guilty for making our Zinfandels in a giant, hedonic style that treats the fruit flavors as an accessory to oak, alcohol, mouthfeel and structure. Not so for the Rattler Rock/ We select the barrels to frame and support the Jam and fruit characters in a way that elevates their juiciness, puts them out on center stage and makes them sing. The alcohol and acidity are not shy but again meant to be part of the background. Its bright fruit flavors make it the most food friendly of our zins.

Tasting Notes

The wine feels decadent; boasting flavors of deep, rich, chocolaty oak seamlessly integrated with ripe plums and blackberries. The palate is plush and layered moving into a long finish of jam and spice. Somewhat like enjoying your favorite box of fruit filled chocolates. Rattler Rock will age beautifully, but it is amazing now!
